The Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting the dentist(s) and dental hygienist(s) in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients of the center. This role includes sterilization, preparation, and inventory control of dental instruments and supplies, as well as completing medical consults as directed by the dentist. The Dental Assistant will transcribe all chart notes accurately into patient charts for each visit and ensure proper documentation.

  • Assist the dentist(s) and dental hygienist(s) in providing primary care dental services.
  • Sterilize, prepare, and control inventory of dental instruments and supplies.
  • Complete medical consults as directed by the dentist and follow clinic policies.
  • Transcribe all chart notes accurately into patient charts.
  • Assist patients in resolving minor difficulties and answering their questions.
  • Serve as chair-side assistant to the dentist or dental hygienist.
  • Prepare operatory for patient treatment according to protocols.
  • Capture diagnostic digital radiographs and ensure proper labeling.
  • Perform independent procedures as delegated by the dentist.
  • Maintain dental department equipment according to manufacturer's directions.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols.
  • Monitor patient flow and assist in completing patient records.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene and post-operative instructions.
  • Practice HIPAA compliance and understand PHI.
  • Make necessary telephone calls related to professional matters and patient care.
  • Assist with clinical and administrative functions as time permits.
  • Ensure sterility of reusable dental instruments and equipment.
  • Dispose of contaminated materials according to regulations.
  • Participate in health promotion and disease prevention activities.
  • Travel as necessary to meet operational needs.
  • Perform other related tasks as directed by a supervisor.
  • Comply with all applicable rules, regulations, and protocols.
  • Work collegially and mentor students professionally.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings.
  • Completion of accredited course in dental assisting required or current CDA (Certified Dental Assistant).
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Effective oral communication skills in Spanish preferred.
  • Qualified in basic life support techniques/CPR.
  • Bilingual preferred - Spanish speaking.
