About the position

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Dental Assistant (DA) to join its Orthodontic Division. The Orthodontics Division provides excellent, comprehensive orthodontic treatment for all ages. The orthodontic faculty members are leaders in their profession, and you will work with respected clinicians and educators work along with our orthodontic resident to provide the best care to our patients. The successful candidate will be responsible for direct chairside orthodontic assisting for all Ortho residents, dental students, and faculty in the orthodontic clinic in the College of Dentistry; dispenses, receives, processes/sterilizes and purchases instruments, equipment and supplies used in the delivery of orthodontic treatment; provides oral hygiene instructions, ensures efficient operation during faculty and clinical sessions; fabricates vacuum formed retainers, pours and trims models; organizes records system; and reviews financing options with new patients. Interfaces with patients, parents, faculty, Ortho residents, dental assistants, and staff in the graduate Ortho clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Direct chairside orthodontic assisting for all Ortho residents, dental students, and faculty in the orthodontic clinic.
  • Dispense, receive, process/sterilize and purchase instruments, equipment and supplies used in the delivery of orthodontic treatment.
  • Provide oral hygiene instructions.
  • Ensure efficient operation during faculty and clinical sessions.
  • Fabricate vacuum formed retainers.
  • Pour and trim models.
  • Organize records system.
  • Review financing options with new patients.
  • Interface with patients, parents, faculty, Ortho residents, dental assistants, and staff in the graduate Ortho clinic.

Requirements

  • 2 years' experience in dental office practices and procedures.
  • Experience in dental operatory practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of four-handed assisting techniques.
  • Inventory record-keeping experience.
  • Care of dental equipment.
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office and internet/email.

Nice-to-haves

  • Orthodontic experience, preferably in a dental setting.
  • Experience and knowledge of a wide variety of dental instruments.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in an educational setting.
