About The Position

Come join the staff at OU HSC and become a part of Oklahoma's premier research university which leads the state in education and career opportunities. This position performs chair-side dental assisting in the Pediatric Dentistry clinic at OU Children's Hospital. Duties: Provides chair side dental assistance, prepares and sterilizes equipment. Document patient care. Takes and develops dental radiographs (x-rays). May provide administrative assistance. Assists the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures to include but not limited to placement of bases and liners and placement and removal of rubber dams, insertion, finishing, and removal of temporary restorations. Prepares set-up trays for anesthetic, operative, prosthetic, periodontal, prophylactic, endodontic, and orthodontic dentistry. Prepares dental equipment and materials for treatment. Performs patient charting as instructed by the dentist. Follows infection control protocol and prepares and sterilizes instruments and equipment. Greets patient and gets them situated in the treatment room. Provides patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures. Takes impressions of patient's teeth for study casts (models of teeth). May perform office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer. Schedules appointments, answers phones, data entry, and orders supplies. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and Dental Assistant Certification
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to follow outlined policies and guidelines
  • Ability to provide patient care and customer service
  • Ability to multitask
  • Must have a professional and positive attitude
  • Current Oklahoma Dental Assistant Permit or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Current CPR Certification
