This person prepares patients for dental examination and assists in providing patient care, within the scope of practice.
Report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working.
Remain at work for their entire work schedule.
Perform initial clinical interview and processing of patients that include taking description of chief complaint or reason for visit.
Review patient medical history and make any appropriate changes.
Assess for and identify abnormal patient conditions and immediately report them to the clinician.
Assist chair side independently and provide dental care to patients across the lifespan.
Accurately and consistently understand and communicate dental terminology while relaying information to co-workers, patients, and health records.
Demonstrate skill in computer operations and dental software.
Keep accurate records of dental office inventory and order supplies as necessary.
Perform operatory set-up and clean-up and dental instrument sterilization as outlined by infection control guidelines provided by OSHA.
Maintain dental equipment such as hand pieces, operatories and evacuation units, radiographic equipment, and sterilization units according to protocol and manufacturer’s guidelines.
Back up dental check-out and/or dental scheduling as needed and may occur on a daily basis.
Operate and maintain center’s dental equipment according to manufacturer instructions and clinic protocols.
Integrate work with other staff to ensure timely and accurate patient flow.
Participate in continuous quality improvement activities.
Comply with center’s policies and procedures.
Utilize specialized office and dental equipment according to procedure.
Perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or the equivalent.
Graduation from a school in dental assisting preferred.
One-year experience as a dental assistant preferred.
Current certification in BLS.
Cultural competence in working with diverse populations required.
