About the position

The Dental Assistant will serve as a chairside assistant to the Dentist or Hygienist. Responsibilities include setting up operative areas, disinfecting areas, managing instruments, and ensuring patient records accompany patients to the treatment area. The position requires maintaining a clean and organized workspace, sterilizing instruments, and developing radiographs.

Responsibilities

  • Set up for the patient including logging in patient name, pulling charts, and making notes under the direction of the attending doctor.
  • Seat patient and drape patient, fix headrest, prepare tray and instruments, and check chart to ensure information is current and complete.
  • Dismiss patient by providing appointment card for next visit, collecting charts for billing, and ensuring completeness of chart.
  • Clean instruments by washing all instruments after freeing them of debris and blood, and return them for sterilization.
  • Maintain equipment by removing debris and cleaning suction hoses weekly.
  • Maintain inventory and keep area neat and organized.
  • Sterilize area, bag, and autoclave instruments.
  • Develop radiographs, mount and date them, and place them in patient charts.
  • Clean and maintain darkroom and developing machine.
  • Perform other tasks as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an approved/accredited Dental Assistant program.
  • Dental Assistant and inventory control experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with dental care needs and procedures for treating pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Basic ability to utilize BHMC's electronic record systems and relevant healthcare and billing systems.
  • Certificate from a Dental Assistant's program.
  • CRCST Certification preferred; new hires must gain certification within 12 months.
