About The Position

ChristianaCare Hospital Dentistry Clinic is looking for a Dental Assistant II. ChristianaCare Hospital Dentistry Clinic is located at 501 West 14th Street in Wilmington, Delaware. For more than 60 years, the Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery & Hospital Dentistry has provided high‑quality, low‑cost dental care to uninsured and underinsured members of the community. Services are delivered by dental residents who have completed dental school and are pursuing an additional year of hospital-based training. Care is closely supervised by dedicated volunteer community dentists and experienced faculty members. Dentistry Services | ChristianaCare Clinical services offered include: Comprehensive restorative dentistry (fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, partials) All phases of implant treatment Endodontic services, including root canal and gum therapies Pediatric dentistry The Dental Assistant II supports dental and oral surgery procedures for patients across the lifespan including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations under the supervision of the Dental Supervisor and Dentist. This role performs a wide range of clinical and administrative responsibilities, including assisting during procedures, completing clerical tasks, providing laboratory support, taking radiographs, and managing general office duties to ensure efficient and high‑quality patient care. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4pm (flexibility is a must)

Requirements

  • A graduate of accredited Dental Assistant program.
  • Dental Radiology Technicians certified by the Delaware Office of Radiation Control.
  • One-year previous work-related experience.
  • Current BLS certification
  • A successful Dental Assistant demonstrates strong knowledge of dental assisting techniques, instruments, materials, equipment, and radiologic procedures.
  • They are proficient in sterilization and disinfecting practices and follow all departmental policies, infection‑control standards, and universal precautions.
  • They bring excellent manual dexterity and are skilled in four‑handed dentistry, oral surgery support, preparing materials for impressions, setting up procedure trays, and taking dental X‑rays.
  • They are also able to assist during procedures requiring general anesthesia or sedation.
  • Strong communication skills, a customer‑service focus, and the ability to support patients who may be under stress are essential.
  • The ideal candidate maintains strict patient confidentiality, provides clear oral‑health instructions, and uses all equipment safely and according to established procedures.

Responsibilities

  • The Dental Assistant II performs a variety of clinical duties within the Dental, Routine Oral Surgery, and Oral Surgery with anesthesia clinics.
  • Responsibilities include disinfecting and sterilizing instruments and equipment, preparing procedure trays, seating, and preparing patients, recording vital signs, assisting the dentist chairside, reinforcing post‑procedure instructions, and maintaining strict infection control and universal precaution standards.
  • The Dental Assistant II includes laboratory and radiologic support such as preparing materials for impressions and models, and preparing patients for radiographic imaging, including exposing, mounting, and processing dental films.
  • Clerical duties include preparing charts and billing forms, retrieving, and refiling radiology films, managing medical records, answering phone calls, and scheduling appointments.
  • Throughout all responsibilities, the Dental Assistant II demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with patients, families, dental providers, and interdisciplinary staff, while applying strong customer‑service principles.
