About The Position

To assist in meeting the goals, objectives and mission of the organization by assisting the Dentist in the direct care of patients.

Requirements

• Graduate from an ADA accredited dental assisting and CPR certification, or high school graduate (or equivalent) and minimum of two full years work experience as a Dental Assistant.
• Maintain certification including meeting all necessary continuing education requirements.
• Demonstrate proper judgment and decision-making skills when necessary.
• Comply with the organizations code of conduct, safety rules and adheres to all company policies.
• Carry out job responsibilities in an ethical, effective and professional manner.
• Must be willing and demonstrate the ability to cooperate, work, and communicate with coworkers and supervisors.
• Must demonstrate computer proficiency with Microsoft Suite and electronic medical record system.
• Must possess a willingness to accept direction from providers and supervisors; must possess the ability to work well and with compassion in stressful situations; must maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with both patients and co-workers.
• Must be keenly aware of the importance of confidentiality in all aspects of the position.

Responsibilities

• To act as chair side assistant to the dentist, preparing necessary materials and equipment for various dental procedures.
• To assist the dentist by listening and responding to request for materials and equipment during various dental procedures.
• Takes x-rays.
• To participate in in-service workshops, and quality assurance activities as may be required by the department.
• To work closely with the dentist and dental staff in improving productivity and efficiency.
• Take preliminary medical histories and vital signs to be reviewed by the dentist.
• Place and remove rubber dams.
• Take impressions for study casts or diagnostic casts.
• Take impressions for space maintainers, orthodontic appliances and occlusal guards.
• Remove temporary cement (not including temporary fillings).
• Apply topical anticariogenic agents to the teeth.
• Apply desensitizing agents to the teeth.
• Place and remove temporary separating devices.
• Other duties and responsibilities as requested by the supervisor.
