This position is located in Crow Agency, MT and Lodge Grass, MT, and is a federal job opportunity. To qualify, candidates must demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position. This includes both paid and unpaid experience, such as volunteer work through National Service programs like the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps. Candidates will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part-time work. The position requires specialized experience in support duties to medical or health personnel, including audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. The job entails performing various tests and procedures as requested by eye professionals, understanding protocols, and managing patient care effectively.

  • Perform tests requested by an optometrist, such as entry testing and visual fields.
  • Verify glasses prescriptions and repair glasses.
  • Educate patients about glasses and contact lens adaptation and use.
  • Act as an office manager using computer software and clerical organizational skills.
  • Perform selected eye care tests while understanding the protocol without direct supervision.
  • Assist with photo-documentation and optic nerve tomography for glaucoma management.
  • Successful completion of 2 years of study with at least 12 semester hours in related subjects for GS-04.
  • 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience for GS-04.
  • Completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree for GS-05.
  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 for GS-05.
  • 6 months of graduate education related to the work of the position for GS-06.
  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 for GS-06.
