This position is located within the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Indian Health Service (IHS), Southwest Region, Phoenix Area, Colorado River Service Unit-Peach Springs Health Center, Dental Department, Peach Springs, AZ. The role involves performing routine and advanced chairside dental assistant services. The position reports to the Supervisory Dental Assistant.

Restore teeth after preparation has been accomplished.
Apply and remove rubber dam, remove temporary fillings.
Select, adapt, seal and cement stainless steel crowns.
Perform dental laboratory procedures.
Operate ultra-sonic scaler and use hand instruments.
Provide dental chairside assisting.
Apply desensitizing agents, place surgical gauze, apply and remove periodontal dressings, and remove sutures.
Present information to community groups on oral health and dental disease prevention.
Enter medical health history into Electronic Dental Record (EDR).
Accurately chart and code dental procedures into EDR.
Clean, sharpen, package, and sterilize all dental instruments and ensure proper storage when not in use.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

U.S. Citizenship is required.
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
Must pass a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation.
Must have completed a full four-year course of study in dental assistant or dental hygiene.
Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service.
Must meet the Basic Requirements for dental assistants as per Public Law 97-35.

Experience in providing simple and complex dental assistance duties.
Completion of training in expanded functions for dental assistants.
Courses in a dental hygiene or dental assistant program accredited by the American Dental Association.
