This position is a federal role located in Crow Agency, MT and Lodge Grass, MT. The job requires applicants to demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position. Experience can include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs and other organizations. Applicants must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in their resume, including the total number of hours worked per week. The position involves support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Specialized experience is required for positions at GS-4 and above, which includes technician experience that applies knowledge, methods, and techniques relevant to the position.

  • Perform tests requested by an optometrist, such as entry testing and visual fields.
  • Verify glasses prescriptions and repair glasses.
  • Educate patients about glasses and contact lens adaptation and use.
  • Act as an office manager using computer software and clerical organizational skills.
  • Perform selected eye care tests while understanding the protocol without direct supervision.
  • Assist with photo-documentation and optic nerve tomography to assist with glaucoma management or other diseases.
  • Successful completion of 2 years of study with at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position for GS-04.
  • 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience for GS-04.
  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree for GS-05.
  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-04 for GS-05.
  • 6 months of graduate education related to the work of the position for GS-06.
  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-05 for GS-06.
