About the position

The position involves assisting with patient management in the PAES (Patient Assessment and Evaluation Services) by seating and preparing patients for treatment promptly to maintain the schedule. Responsibilities include addressing patient concerns, escorting patients to various locations throughout the school, and utilizing the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system for patient-related activities and documentation. The role also requires preparing instruments, materials, and work surfaces for use by students, residents, and faculty, as well as assisting chair-side during procedures, including obtaining and processing radiographs. Compliance with infection control standards, OSHA guidelines, and HIPAA regulations is essential, along with monitoring quality assurance processes in the clinic. Additionally, the position involves clerical operations such as developing and revising training procedures, scheduling patient appointments, and maintaining clinic policies and procedures for patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient management in PAES by seating and preparing patients for treatment promptly.
  • Address patient concerns and escort patients to various locations throughout the school.
  • Utilize the EHR for patient-related activities and documentation.
  • Prepare instruments, materials, and work surfaces for use by students, residents, and faculty.
  • Assist students, residents, and faculty/staff dentist chair-side when needed, including obtaining and processing radiographs.
  • Follow current infection control standards pertaining to OSHA guidelines and HIPAA.
  • Assist with infection control monitoring of faculty, students, and residents along with quality assurance processes in the clinic.
  • Oversee compliance with OSHA standards, calibration of instruments, infection control compliance, and clinical record keeping.
  • Assist in developing and revising training procedures and training dental students.
  • Schedule patient appointments.
  • Support PAES operationally by cleaning, disinfecting, preparing, and arranging work surfaces and instrument storage.
  • Prepare and maintain dental instruments for sterilization and package clinic supplies for distribution.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies in the work area and order office/dental supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on dental units, chairs, and operatory lights.
  • Oversee equipment function and report dental equipment repair and maintenance/replacement needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 0 - 2 years of Dental experience; reasonable knowledge of dental clinic practices and procedures.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Radiography certification.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal, and information technology skills.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA standards, and aseptic techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certificate of completion from an accredited dental assisting program.
  • Some knowledge of dental materials, dental instruments, and dental equipment.
  • Some dental assisting experience working within a dental health care setting.
  • Familiarity with Axium dental record systems.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
