About The Position

Stew Leonard’s, a family-owned and operated fresh food store founded in 1969, has locations in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. Stew’s earned its nickname, the “Disneyland of Dairy Stores” because of its country-fair atmosphere, with costumed characters and animated entertainment throughout the store that keep children entertained while parents shop. Manager Deli Full Time Hourly – Estimated pay range $ 75,000 to $80,000 depending on qualifications and experience Must be at least 18 years and older Position Description: Responsible for overall sales and profitability of the Deli Department. Sales range from $5 – $7 million based on store location. Your day-to-day: Utilize “The Round-Up” to make informed and insightful decisions Review daily sales Product knowledge Organize and conduct one idea trips Identify and develop new products and trends Merchandising of product through signs, packaging, show & sell Ordering product Set retail pricing Ensure the highest of quality standards for all products Maintain price book and make any necessary changes Ensure proper labeled/dated product Review all “top 20’s” and “hit list” year round Production planning Ensure recipes are consistent Work with demo manager and provide high sales and gross profit items for demos Equipment knowledge and maintenance Attend all department bash meetings and strategy meetings and accomplish all agreed goals Holiday planning/strategies Review returns and customer comments and act on them Handle customer complaints Comply with all health code regulations Comply with all safety procedures Hire, coach, develop, and motivate the Deli Team Labor management Communication meetings Performance reviews- Annual and Chats Gross Profit Conduct monthly price surveys/review competitors’ ads and react as needed to remain competitive Find and react to “buy-ins” for profitability Control inventory levels to ensure turnover and less waste Evaluate merchandising opportunities daily to maximize GP Review open-key to ensure proper ringing and speedy customer service Labor Review daily punches Weekly scheduling of Team Members React to sales trends vs. labor Expenses Review all monthly financial results and look for opportunities. Conduct monthly inventory Waste control Monitor transfers between departments and stores

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years and older
  • HS Diploma plus 5-10 years’ experience; Associates Degree preferred.
  • Above average math and computer skills
