Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a focus on fast, friendly service.
  • Assist customers by making product suggestions, filling special orders, and providing food preparation recommendations.
  • Answer and respond to incoming calls professionally; resolve customer concerns and escalate to the Store Director as needed.
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques through telephone interactions, in‑store intercom announcements, and direct customer conversations.
  • Possess full knowledge of duties performed by all department employees; oversee and assist with preparation, cooking, and serving of food items.
  • Implement proper and efficient product preparation and packaging techniques.
  • Operate kitchen and deli equipment including utensils, fryers, conventional and microwave ovens, pizza ovens, slicers, grills, food processors, wrappers, scales, printers, and pallet jacks.
  • Prepare sandwiches, salads, pizzas, hot and cold foods, and food/party trays according to company standards.
  • Maintain deli case cleanliness, visual appeal, and appropriate inventory levels.
  • Ensure proper sanitation, cleanliness, and appearance of all deli areas and equipment; maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ensure food temperature compliance in all phases of preparation, display, and storage.
  • Understand and follow opening and closing procedures for the department.
  • Build displays, rotate product, and remove outdated or spoiled items.
  • Implement and maintain effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • May oversee the operation and maintenance of salad bar and wing bar.
  • Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) when applicable.
  • Comply with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, company policies, and code‑dating requirements.
  • Enforce proper code‑dating procedures for all department products.
  • Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees.
  • Ensure adequate coverage and service levels through effective scheduling.
  • Train employees on store policies, sales techniques, and record‑keeping procedures.
  • Identify and develop employees with high potential for advancement.
  • Monitor employee productivity and evaluate overall performance.
  • Initiate personnel actions including interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Prepare sales and inventory reports; participate in physical inventory every four weeks.
  • Control inventory to ensure proper product quantity, quality, and freshness; maintain inventory levels in accordance with division directives.
  • Stock and rotate product; maintain and organize coolers.
  • Perform receiving duties, including breaking down loads, verifying orders, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product.
  • Follow product temperature guidelines, storage requirements, and proper packaging techniques.
  • Process administrative paperwork and maintain accurate department records.
  • Accurately complete and monitor required daily logs, production charts, and sales and labor documentation.
  • Control shrink and manage cost‑effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with all workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain safety, cleanliness, and sanitation in the sales floor, work area, freezer, cooler, equipment, cutting boards, and display areas.
  • Implement emergency procedures for equipment or software malfunctions.
  • Perform all duties with safety, accuracy, honesty, and integrity.
  • Attend and actively participate in sales meetings; communicate sales goals, performance expectations, and opportunities to the team.
