About The Position

The Deli Manager oversees all operations of the Deli Department, ensuring high‑quality fresh foods, strong merchandising, excellent service, and compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. This role manages production, inventory, shrink control, scheduling, and associate development while driving sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Previous deli, food service, or grocery experience required; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, merchandising, and food safety standards.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with store systems.
  • Flexible availability including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely handle knives, slicers, fryers, ovens, and other deli equipment.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide fast, friendly, and knowledgeable customer service.
  • Lead, train, coach, and supervise deli associates to maintain department standards.
  • Manage customer inquiries, special orders, and service recovery.
  • Ensure a positive, efficient, and team‑oriented work environment.
  • Oversee preparation, cooking, slicing, frying, and packaging of deli products.
  • Maintain proper presentation, portioning, quality, and freshness standards.
  • Ensure all hot and cold food is prepared and held at proper temperatures.
  • Execute catering orders and prepare trays per company specifications.
  • Ensure attractive displays, proper signage, and planogram execution.
  • Support promotional, seasonal, and advertised merchandising programs.
  • Rotate product, remove unsellable items, and maintain visual appeal throughout the day.
  • Order products and supplies to maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Monitor and control shrink by following rotation, storage, and production planning guidelines.
  • Maintain organized coolers, freezers, and prep areas.
  • Conduct regular inventories and track usage and waste trends.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, labeling, and HACCP requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe department, including equipment, prep areas, and service cases.
  • Monitor code dates and ensure proper product handling procedures.
  • Train all associates on safety and sanitation protocols.
  • Create weekly schedules aligned with business needs and labor budgets.
  • Complete department reports, logs, and required recordkeeping.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures.
