Pay Transparency: Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay, paid holidays, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility). Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis. For roles in Washington State: Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a strong focus on fast, friendly service.
  • Assist customers by making product suggestions, filling special orders, and offering food‑preparation recommendations.
  • Engage in suggestive selling through telephone interactions, in‑store announcements, and direct customer conversations.
  • Answer and respond to incoming calls professionally; resolve customer concerns appropriately and escalate to the Store Director when needed.
  • Maintain full working knowledge of all department duties, including preparation, cooking, and serving of food items.
  • Prepare sandwiches, salads, pizzas, hot foods, cold foods, and party trays in accordance with company standards.
  • Implement proper, efficient food preparation and packaging techniques.
  • Operate all required equipment safely, including fryers, ovens (conventional & microwave), pizza ovens, slicers, grills, food processors, wrappers, scales, printers, pallet jacks, utensils, and other deli equipment.
  • Maintain deli case cleanliness, visual appeal, and appropriate product levels.
  • Ensure the deli area, equipment, and workspaces meet all cleanliness, sanitation, and safety requirements.
  • Ensure proper product temperatures are maintained at all stages: preparation, display, and storage.
  • Understand and follow opening and closing procedures for the department.
  • Build displays, rotate stock, and remove outdated or spoiled product.
  • Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels to maintain strong customer service and operational flow.
  • Train employees in store policies, food safety, sales techniques, preparation procedures, and record‑keeping accuracy.
  • Identify employees with strong potential for advancement and support their development.
  • Monitor employee productivity and evaluate overall performance.
  • Initiate personnel actions, including interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary steps.
  • Control inventory to ensure proper product quantity, quality, freshness, and adherence to division directives.
  • Stock, rotate, and maintain product levels; keep coolers clean, organized, and compliant with safety and temperature guidelines.
  • Prepare sales and inventory reports; conduct physical inventory every 4 weeks.
  • Assist with ordering products and maintaining inventory levels based on division requirements.
  • Oversee reclamation processing and ensure orderly, well‑stocked conditions in the back room and all deli areas.
  • Maintain accurate department records and process all administrative paperwork.
  • Receive deliveries, break down loads, verify invoices, inspect product quality, report shortages, stock items, and follow proper temperature and packaging standards.
  • Control shrink and departmental costs effectively.
  • Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Maintain attractive, compliant product presentation throughout the department.
  • May oversee the operation and maintenance of the salad bar and wing bar.
  • Follow all standards and expectations related to handling fast‑turn, high‑volume “quick sale” items.
  • Ensure all department products meet proper code‑dating requirements.
  • Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Ensure all department operations meet company standards for safety, sanitation, quality, and customer service.
