About The Position

The Deli Lead is responsible for overseeing deli operations, ensuring adherence to company policies, maintaining product quality and freshness, and optimizing inventory management. This role ensures compliance with food safety standards, proper product handling, and merchandising execution to drive operational excellence. The Deli Lead does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but plays a critical role in supporting business performance and enhancing the Member experience. A valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification is required and must be maintained in good standing. BJ’s covers any applicable cost associated and training.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in deli operations, food handling, or grocery retail.
  • Strong knowledge of deli preparation processes, food safety guidelines, and sanitation requirements.
  • Ability to analyze data and identify process improvements to optimize efficiency.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Email).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must maintain all training and required certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and execute deli operational standards, ensuring efficient production and high-quality prepared foods.
  • Ensure proper product availability by monitoring inventory levels and executing timely replenishment to maintain in-stock conditions.
  • Execute operational functions of the department, including the ability to slice, prepare, and merchandise deli products to company standards.
  • Ensure all items are accurately priced, labeled, and in compliance with company policies.
  • Track and analyze sales, waste, and shrink data to identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including cold chain procedures and ServSafe guidelines, while maintaining the cleanliness and proper functioning of deli equipment.
  • Escalate operational concerns, such as equipment malfunctions, stock shortages, or food safety risks, to management as necessary.
  • Apply FIFO (First In, First Out) rotation procedures to reduce waste and maintain optimal product quality.
  • Regularly inspect products for expiration dates and condition, removing any damaged or outdated items to uphold food safety standards.
  • Execute seasonal promotions, merchandising initiatives, and special event product displays in alignment with company guidelines.
  • Support club-wide initiatives, including inventory audits, shrink control, and performance tracking.
  • Conduct daily inspections of deli cases, coolers, and freezers to ensure optimal conditions and compliance with food safety standards.
  • Assist with receiving and inspecting produce shipments to verify accuracy.
  • Support inventory audits and reconciliation efforts to minimize shrink and maintain accurate records.
  • Monitor product freshness and conduct quality checks to uphold company standards.
  • Provide additional support across departments as needed.
  • Demonstrate consistent presence to support operations, provide leadership coverage, and ensure smooth club execution.
