About The Position

As a Deli/Bakery Associate at Liscio’s Italian Bakery, employees are required to perform a wide range of customer-facing and physically demanding tasks fundamental to the operation of a retail deli and bakery environment. This includes preparing, slicing, assembling, stocking, lifting, and handling products throughout the shift. The role requires continuous standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motion. All duties outlined below constitute essential job functions.

Requirements

  • Prior deli, bakery, food service, or retail experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to learn and safely operate slicers, knives, ovens, and other deli equipment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to follow instructions, food-safety procedures, and company policies.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and peak business periods as scheduled.
  • Must be able to perform all essential physical requirements listed below with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Standing and walking: 8+ hours per shift, continuously.
  • Bending: Frequent and repetitive bending at the waist to stock lower shelves, retrieve products, clean, and inspect displays.
  • Reaching: Frequent reaching at all levels, including overhead.
  • Floor-level stocking: Regular kneeling, crouching, and bending to stock lower shelves and coolers.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Up to 50 lbs regularly (boxes of product, deli meats, trays, bakery items). Up to 75 lbs occasionally with assistance.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Up to 50 lbs (carts, racks, equipment).
  • Repetitive motion: Constant slicing, gripping, cutting, packaging, and handling tools.
  • Fine motor skills: Operation of deli slicers and knives requiring full upper-body mobility, safe range of motion, and sufficient grip strength.
  • Environmental exposure: Working in cold environments (coolers/freezers) for stocking and retrieving product.
  • Surfaces: Standing on hard, occasionally wet or slippery floors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt, courteous service at the deli/bakery counter.
  • Operate meat slicers, knives, scales, ovens, and other deli equipment safely and consistently.
  • Slice, weigh, label, and package deli products per customer specifications.
  • Prepare and assemble sandwiches, baked goods, and packaged items.
  • Stock shelves, coolers, freezers, and display cases — including floor-level stocking and overhead placement.
  • Maintain and rotate product inventory to ensure freshness.
  • Maintain clean, sanitary workstations and comply with FDA, GMP, and general food-safety standards.
  • Transport products throughout the store as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Store Director or Supervisor.
