About The Position

The DEIA Librarian/Assistant Professor at Riverside City College is a full-time, tenure-track position focused on promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within the library and the broader college community. The role involves providing leadership in developing strategies to enhance awareness and skills related to DEIA, ensuring library services and resources reflect these commitments, and engaging with marginalized populations. The librarian will also be responsible for reference services, collection development, and library instruction, with a strong emphasis on open educational resources (OER).

Requirements

  • American Library Association (ALA) accredited master's degree in Library Science or Library Information Science, or an equivalent advanced degree.
  • Experience in face-to-face and virtual librarian duties including reference, collection development, and library instruction.
  • Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.
  • Knowledge or experience in best practices related to the adoption, adaptation, and creation of OERs.
  • Willingness to adapt relational and instructional practices to support marginalized students.
  • Recent experience working with historically underserved students in higher education.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a public service orientation.
  • Proficiency with newer technologies related to academic libraries.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of the Creative Commons certificate course.
  • Experience in education and instructional design using an LMS system such as Canvas.
  • Demonstrated experience leading successful initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Spanish language fluency.
  • Grant experience.
  • Statistical reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the library in campus equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for the RCC Library to support education and cultural transformation regarding bias and discrimination.
  • Engage with colleagues across RCC to advance strategies for an inclusive library climate.
  • Contribute to training and organizational development activities addressing cultural awareness and anti-racist practices.
  • Ensure library services, collections, programs, and resources are developed with a focus on equity and inclusiveness.
  • Act as the lead for local, district, and statewide equity and diversity initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and support for Open Educational Resources (OER) initiatives.
  • Participate in college and district discussions related to open and affordable course content.
  • Participate in college activities and professional organizations.
  • Conduct librarian duties including reference, collection development, and library instruction.
  • Participate in ongoing library program review and strategic planning.
  • Fulfill the duties of a full-time instructor, including holding office hours and completing required flex credit activities.
