About The Position

As a Defined Contribution Strategist, you will be fluent in all aspects of workplace retirement plans with a focus on defined contribution and wellness and be responsible for providing support to the institutional client/consultant relationship managers, national account managers and the intermediary sales force to strengthen existing and develop new retirement relationships. You will deliver defined contribution industry expertise for in-plan retirement topics including plan design, regulatory trends/impact and will convey Capital’s retirement thought leadership to external clients and prospects. Additionally, the Defined Contribution Strategist will demonstrate full and complete knowledge of Capital’s retirement product offering, investment solutions and economic outlook and serve as a subject matter expert to internal product and business development teams. Works collaboratively and travel with the sales force to provide retirement expertise and assist in growing sales and engagement with institutional plan sponsors, financial advisors, heavy retirement plan advisers, institutional consultants and retirement plan platforms. Serves as a specialized resource that Capital’s sales force can leverage to deepen relationships with the firm’s best retirement clients and prospects. Leads or conducts research projects or analytical engagements for prospects and clients with the support of the institutional solutions analytics team. Success analyzing plan demographics and applying client centric lens to improve client engagement and commercial storytelling. Experience modeling and evaluating custom target date solutions, white label multi-manager structures and other non-target date product specific client needs. Develop fluency across all Capital’s product lines and vehicles including CIT’s, SMA’s, mutual funds, insurance products, proprietary recordkeeping platforms, IRA’s, and target date funds. Effectively communicate Capital’s views on defined contribution plan design and retirement planning concepts. Properly position Capital’s/American Funds’ solutions to meet the needs of retirees, sponsors and their participants both in and out of the plan environment. Participate in the development of Capital’s thought leadership and deliver to audiences of various sizes in one-on-one meetings, client team meetings and at industry conferences and client events. Represent Capital Group as a member of industry associations through industry sub-committees and leadership roles. You will provide Retirement Business Support Participate in Capital’s retirement product development efforts. Assist with the development of retirement thought leadership. Provide a real-time voice of the customer in go-to-market strategy development. Act as the conduit of information between the retirement marketplace and the business leaders and sales force.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the financial services industry in a client facing, retirement product sales and/or business development role.
  • Exhibit a solid understanding of the investment needs, business objectives, and overall retirement issues facing retirees, wealth platforms, plan sponsors and intermediaries including consultants, retirement plan advisers, third party administrators and recordkeeping platforms.
  • Demonstrate the ability to collaborate and develop/maintain working relationships inside and outside of the organization to enable effective completion of business objectives.
  • Ability to identify issues and recommend solutions on complex and broad matters.
  • Exhibit strong analytical and research capabilities.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Effective written communication and presentation skills, including public speaking, to interact with a diverse group of associates, senior business leaders, and individuals outside of the organization.
