About The Position

Jensen Hughes is seeking a talented Defense Materials and Sustainment Consultant with experience supporting the Department of Defense or the defense industrial base. This position will ideally work out of our Columbia, MD office. We are open to hybrid or remote for the right candidate. This position will work on a variety of projects providing engineering and programmatic support to our DoD clients in the forms of technical analysis, policy and guidance development, and project management. Our DoD clients oversee policy and technology programs related to weapon system sustainment, corrosion prevention and control, and safer alternative materials and processes. We are a leading specialty consulting firm providing a range of professional services involving corrosion, environmental, life safety, fire protection, industrial safety, process safety, risk-informed engineering, business continuity, security, emergency planning and emergency response on government, commercial, residential, healthcare, institutional and industrial projects for clients worldwide.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • 2-20+ years of experience to include relevant experience with government organizations or the defense industrial base.
  • Interest in improved sustainment technology, corrosion prevention and control practices, or safer alternative materials.
  • Knowledge of defense acquisition, production, and/or maintenance processes.
  • Excellent writing/presenting/communications skills.
  • Demonstrated, redacted writing sample required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional client service by independently managing tasks and collaboratively contributing to team efforts to address the complex material and process needs of Department of Defense (DoD) clients.
  • Analyze and execute diverse instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form to ensure alignment with client objectives and organizational goals.
  • Review and interpret a wide range of technical documentation, including procedures, specifications, policies, and guidebooks, ensuring thorough understanding and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Review and interpret a wide range of laws and regulations pertaining to materials and processes used in the defense industry, including at the local, State, Federal, and international levels.
  • Assess environmental, safety, and health risks posed by chemical compositions and make recommendations to manage those risks, including through candidate alternative materials and processes.
  • Synthesize and present complex information by consolidating data into clear, concise reports, presentations, briefings, and spreadsheets tailored to support informed decision-making and actionable recommendations for clients.
  • Develop creative solutions to practical problems in dynamic environments with limited standardization, leveraging critical thinking and adaptability to address unique challenges.
  • Travel locally 1-2 times per month and overnight trips 2-4 times per year, with additional travel for personnel located outside the greater DC metro area.
  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices to continuously enhance service delivery and provide value-added solutions to clients in alignment with DoD objectives.
