JOB SUMMARY: The Dedicated Aide (DA) provides individualized, student-specific support as outlined in the student’s IEP to ensure access to instruction, safety, and progress towards all goals. The DA will collaborate with the teacher and classroom team in promoting a healthy, positive, safe, stimulating and structured school environment for assigned student(s)with disabilities. Also, the DA will provide support to assigned student(s) by assisting in developing, preparing and implementing strategies within the classroom and school-wide plans for positive student outcomes. Services will be delivered in accordance with the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP), including accommodations, modifications, and behavioral supports.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience working with students with disabilities and behaviorally challenged students preferably in a school setting.
  • Experience in behavior management, crisis intervention, and/or hands off problem-solving a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse staff and client population.
  • Ability to redirect students in crisis.

Responsibilities

  • Provides 1:1 or small-group support to assigned student(s) as outlined in the IEP.
  • Supports student during transitions, unstructured time, and community base settings as required by IEP needs.
  • Implements teacher-designed accommodations and modifications to support access to instruction.
  • Participates in the development, revision and implementation of behavior plans, in conjunction with clinically related services, behavior, and teaching staff.
  • Utilizes verbal and multi-modal de-escalation strategies to support assigned student(s) regulations.
  • Collects and documents IEP-aligned data (academic, behavioral, functional) as directed.
  • Collaborates with the teacher to ensure consistent implementation of student-specific support and supports the teacher with parent communications both written and orally.
  • Supports student use of assistive technology and communication systems (e.g. AAC devices, ASL expressive communication supports) and prompts use as appropriate.
  • Fosters student independence by gradually fading support when appropriate and promoting self-advocacy skills.
  • Assists students in achieving goals through transition activities such as volunteering, internships, temporary employment, etc.
  • Attend all staff meetings and be willing to serve on school committees as needed.
  • Reports to the principal organizationally and works under special education teacher direction.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
