Your IMPACT As a Deckhand Intern, you will learn and assist with core deck operations under the guidance of licensed Officers and experienced Deckhands, including: Assisting with safe deck operations and tow work Handling lines, rigging, and basic deck tasks Participating in tow building, locking, and docking activities Supporting housekeeping and vessel maintenance duties Learning basic navigation support practices Contributing to a safe, team-focused vessel environment Demonstrating ACBL values: integrity, mutual care, personal responsibility, agility, customer focus, and teamwork This experience is designed to help you successfully obtain 60 days of verified sea time toward your USCG credentials.

Requirements

Current enrollment as a San Jac Maritime Program student participating in the internship program
Ability to work part-time and rotate aboard vessels as scheduled
Reliable transportation to assigned vessel ports
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Must be 18 years of age
Must successfully pass: Background check Pre-employment drug screen Physical / physical abilities test
Ability to attend and complete RS1 Training (one week) in Convent, LA, required for all new vessel hires
Ability to adhere to all ACBL policies, USCG requirements, and environmental regulations
Ability to perform physical, hands-on deck work safely and effectively

Nice To Haves

High School diploma or GED
Previous maritime, labor, or outdoor work experience
Prior exposure to vessel operations through your coursework

Responsibilities
