About The Position

The Decedent Affairs, Staffing Coordinator plays a crucial role in managing the activities related to patient expirations and ensuring compliance with documentation and staffing needs. This position involves critical identification functions, coordination of death certificates, and collaboration with healthcare supervisors to maintain adequate staffing levels in patient care areas. The role requires independent work and effective communication with various healthcare professionals to ensure quality care and compliance with regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology or completion of a medical terminology course within six months of hire.
  • 1-2 years of previous hospital/healthcare experience as a staffing coordinator.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Word and Excel, with a typing speed of at least 50 WPM.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of previous hospital/healthcare experience as a staffing coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Document information in support of complex case management.
  • Manage activities of patient expirations from death to final disposition of remains.
  • Perform critical identification functions to ensure correct decedent handling.
  • Act as gatekeeper for morgue admissions and removals, ensuring compliance requirements are met.
  • Prepare death certificates and coordinate with physicians on causes of death.
  • Work independently with the House Supervisor to ensure adequate staffing for inpatient areas.
  • Review future scheduling at least 24 hours in advance and collaborate with supervisors on staffing issues.
  • Track nursing care hours, staffing records, sick calls, decedent affairs, and registry tracking.
