About The Position

The Dean of Students at Ripley High School serves as a key member of the administrative leadership team, working collaboratively with the Principal and Assistant Principals to support student behavior, attendance, school climate, and overall student development. The Dean of Students plays a central role in maintaining a safe, respectful, and orderly learning environment while fostering positive relationships among students, staff, families, and the community. This position focuses on proactive behavior management, consistent implementation of school policies, student support, and the development of a strong, positive school culture aligned with Ripley High School’s mission and expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or related field preferred).
  • Valid Tennessee teaching license required; administrative endorsement preferred or willingness to pursue.
  • Experience working with high school students in an educational or leadership role.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage challenging situations with professionalism, consistency, and sound judgment.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive school culture and supporting student success.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the administration in managing student discipline in accordance with district policies and the student handbook.
  • Investigates behavioral incidents, implements appropriate consequences, and documents interventions.
  • Monitors patterns in student behavior and collaborates with administrators to address recurring concerns.
  • Assists with restorative practices, conflict resolution, and behavior improvement plans.
  • Promotes a positive, respectful, and inclusive school culture that supports student engagement and accountability.
  • Supports student leadership initiatives, extracurricular activities, and school events (e.g., assemblies, dances, clubs).
  • Reinforces school-wide expectations related to dress code, conduct, attendance, and transitions.
  • Serves as a resource for students experiencing academic, behavioral, attendance, or social-emotional challenges.
  • Collaborates with counselors, special education staff, and administrators to support students’ individual needs.
  • Assists in connecting students and families with appropriate school or community resources when needed.
  • Supports crisis response and student safety efforts as directed by administration.
  • Assists the Principal and Assistant Principals with daily school operations, including supervision during non-instructional times (hallways, lunch, arrival/dismissal, events).
  • Supports enforcement of school and district policies with consistency and fairness.
  • May assume delegated administrative duties as assigned, particularly related to student conduct and development.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians regarding student behavior, attendance, and support plans.
  • Conducts parent conferences and collaborates with families to support student success.
  • Represents the school in a professional manner that reflects positively on Ripley High School.
  • Supports student programming and activities aligned with the school’s goals and mission.
  • Collaborates with teachers to address student behavior concerns and classroom support strategies.
  • Works closely with the leadership team to review data related to discipline, attendance, and school climate to inform decisions.
