The Dean of Students provides leadership and management of several offices that plan, develop, and administer the non-academic and co-curricular aspects of the student experience that engage and advance student development, learning, student retention, and success at Eastern Michigan University.

  • Responsible for co-curricular programs, activities and services that engage and advance student development, learning, and student retention and success.
  • Support student well-being in the physical, social, emotional and psychological health of the university's diverse student body and ensure a caring and inclusive learning environment.
  • Oversee New Student Orientation and campus life to support student involvement in co-curricular programs and activities.
  • Manage international student services to assist with cultural and educational transition and compliance with SEVIS requirements.
  • Develop strong partnerships within the campus and surrounding community.
  • Utilize assessment and continuous improvement to advance program and service quality.
  • Advise and assist student groups and related organizations.
  • Manage budgetary responsibilities and fiscal leadership, including acquisition of external funding.
  • Maintain visibility of the University and engage in leadership roles regarding student affairs issues.
  • Serve as a primary liaison to the campus community regarding student behavioral and health concerns.
  • A master's degree is required.
  • Five (5) years of demonstrated and progressive leadership in student affairs administration, residence life, or other student life areas at the university/college level.
  • Thorough understanding of student development and learning theories, best practices, organizational management, and transformational leadership.
  • Strong management skills and a solid budgetary background.
  • Superior organizational skills.
  • Ability to articulate a vision and actualize organizational goals.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in staff supervision and development.
  • Demonstrated experience with mediation and negotiation.
  • A doctoral degree is preferred.
