About The Position

The Dean of Students at Danville Public Schools plays a crucial role in fostering a safe and conducive learning environment for students. This position requires collaboration with the building administrative team, Security Team, and Student Services team to promote mutual respect and safety within the school. The Dean is responsible for addressing attendance and disciplinary issues, ensuring that students adhere to established standards of conduct while maintaining their dignity. The Dean's efforts are directed towards promoting good attendance rates and identifying students who may be struggling with attendance or disciplinary challenges. In this role, the Dean utilizes District Disciplinary Policies to ensure the safety and security of the school environment. Working closely with the Principal, the Dean helps to establish a secure learning atmosphere for all students. This includes developing and administering disciplinary procedures in accordance with district policies and state laws. The Dean is tasked with receiving referrals, conferring with students, parents, teachers, and community agencies, and resolving concerns and complaints from parents, students, and staff. Additionally, the Dean serves on discipline or expulsion panels as assigned, contributing to the overall governance of student conduct. The Dean supervises students on campus before and after school, as well as during lunch, ensuring that inappropriate behavior is addressed consistently. Collaboration with Security Personnel is essential, as the Dean acts as the point of contact for student discipline and attendance issues, including skipping and tardies. The Dean actively participates in school projects and initiatives that promote orderly behavior and positive expectations throughout the school. Furthermore, the Dean develops emergency plans in collaboration with other administrators and public safety agencies, directing the work of yard duty staff and crossing guards, and conducting safety drills. Record-keeping is a significant part of the Dean's responsibilities, as they prepare and maintain various district, county, state, and federal records and reports. The Dean leads the school Attendance Team, following protocols for collecting, documenting, and communicating regarding student attendance. Identifying students with poor attendance and implementing appropriate interventions is a key focus, along with monitoring attendance functions and communicating with parents regarding absent or tardy students. The Dean also creates and presents reports related to attendance and discipline, collaborating with school personnel, parents, and community agencies to address the needs and concerns of students.
