About The Position

Montgomery College is seeking an individual to serve as dean of instruction for the Education and Social Sciences area starting January 2026. This 40-hour weekly assignment involves providing executive direction in implementing academic programs and services, curriculum development, budget administration, faculty hiring, evaluation, professional development, and maintaining academic standards within the unit. The incumbent must effectively lead and motivate a diverse team of faculty and staff, fostering teamwork and collaboration, and cultivating trust and strong connections. They will build strong, effective working relationships with all stakeholders, clearly conveying ideas and listening actively. The incumbent must understand and address the needs and concerns of students, faculty, and staff. Finally, they must inspire and encourage faculty and staff to achieve their best, contributing to a culture of teaching and learning excellence.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education, Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field; doctorate or terminal degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a department chair or equivalent managerial/leadership experience in an academic instructional department and/or above.
  • Proven track record of managing student success initiatives for academic programs.
  • Five (5) years of full-time teaching experience at the post-secondary level in a field in the area, with a preference for teaching in a community college setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative and visionary leadership to faculty and staff regarding short- and long-range planning and programming.
  • Develops and ensures student-centered focus in alignment with the college's mission and goals.
  • Oversees curriculum development and ensures the quality and relevance of academic programs.
  • Promotes innovative teaching and learning practices.
  • Recruits, mentors, and evaluates full-time faculty and staff.
  • Encourages professional development and research opportunities for faculty.
  • Fosters an inclusive and collaborative working environment.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant collective bargaining agreements.
  • Enhances student engagement and retention through effective programs and services.
  • Addresses student needs and facilitates pathways for career and academic advancement.
  • Manages the area's budget, resources, and facilities effectively.
  • Authorizes and monitors expenditures to ensure that internal College funds and external grant funds are expended within legal guidelines and priorities.
  • Works with the Academic Affairs leadership to secure funding opportunities and partnerships to support programs and initiatives.
  • Supports the work within Academic Affairs to build partnerships with industry, educational institutions, and community organizations.
  • Engages with key stakeholders in Academic Affairs to promote the area's programs through outreach and advocacy.
