About The Position

The Director of Instruction role at Intrinsic Schools is primarily focused on high school instruction, following the academic calendar for approximately 10.5 months. This position is integral to the school's mission of preparing students for postsecondary success through innovative educational practices. The Director will support the development of the administrative team's vision, invest in teachers, and mobilize them to achieve collective goals. Responsibilities include fostering student growth, monitoring academic performance, and ensuring a safe and joyful learning environment. The role also emphasizes the importance of strong relationships between students and staff, as well as the celebration of student successes.

Requirements

  • At least three years teaching experience with a track record of high achievement.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and children with developmental differences.
  • Proven track record of achieving academic excellence for students.
  • Ability to drive stronger student outcomes through data utilization.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to achieve results for students, families, and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with principles in Leverage Leadership.
  • Experience with the Relay National Principal Fellowship program.

Responsibilities

  • Support development of administrative team's school-wide vision and mobilize teachers to achieve collective goals.
  • Grow all students at least two points on the Pre-ACT/ACT suite of tests 9-11th grade via detailed data analysis, staff support, and academic interventions.
  • Participate in regular instructional walkthroughs/rounds and share trends with school leadership.
  • Monitor GPA, attendance, and promotion data; develop plans for improvement as needed.
  • Support course teams in designing data-driven, personalized learning spaces (PODs).
  • Provide high-quality instructional coaching with frequent observations and actionable feedback.
  • Foster a culture of joy and strong relationships between students and staff.
  • Ensure the Downtown Campus is well-organized according to the University of Chicago 5 Essentials Survey.
  • Communicate passionately about the mission and vision of Intrinsic Schools.
  • Collaborate with the Principal and School Leadership Team to assess and refine the Intrinsic model.
