About The Position

The Dean of Curriculum and Instruction (DOCI) serves as an instructional leader of either the lower or upper school, ensuring that every classroom facilitates rigorous, engaging, and equitable instruction. Rooted in Carmen’s core values of empathy, belief, and growth, the DOCI coaches teachers, implements and manages academic systems, and leads data-driven cycles that drive measurable student achievement. Additionally, this role teaches one section of a course to provide an exemplar classroom model. This role is designed for a leader who believes that excellent schools are built through intentional coaching, consistent systems, and collective growth—and who is eager to lead teachers toward driving outcomes for students. The DOCI is a member of the upper or lower school leadership team.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field; master’s degree preferred
Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction teacher licenses or eligibility
Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction administration licensure preferred, not required, or eligibility for such licensure.
Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience required, minimum of 1 year in a part-time or full-time instructional leadership role preferred
Proven track record of improving student outcomes through data-driven leadership.
Deep knowledge of standards-based instruction, assessment, and adult learning.
Excellent communication, relationship-building, and change management skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple priorities with excellence.
Solutions-oriented mindset and ability to adapt as needed.

Responsibilities

Lead the implementation of high-quality instruction aligned to Carmen’s Arc of the Year framework.
Partner with the Principal and Network Teaching & Learning Team to plan and facilitate professional development and collaborative planning.
Partner with APA to co-lead PD, both campus and network-based, and data-driven reteach cycles.
Actively participate in weekly data meetings.
Ensure curriculum alignment, pacing, and fidelity to Carmen’s adopted high-quality instructional materials (HQIM).
Model strong instructional coaching through real-time feedback, co-planning, and practice clinics.
Teach one section of a course in their content area to provide an exemplar classroom.
Responsible for network leadership of course taught including pacing calendar, materials, co-planning with collaboration partner(s).
Conduct weekly 1:1s and joint walkthroughs to calibrate coaching, feedback, and data use.
Conduct frequent classroom observations and provide actionable, high-impact feedback and action steps.
Utilize the Grow coaching platform, ensuring their teachers receive weekly observation, feedback, and measurable action steps.
Manage, coach, and develop 6 - 8 teachers and/or teacher leaders toward meeting their performance and development goals.
Identify emerging teacher leaders to sustain a strong leadership pipeline.
Collaborate with the Principal to ensure performance management processes are implemented with consistency and clarity.
Support the Principal with hiring and onboarding of instructional staff.
Lead analysis of student academic data to identify trends and drive improvement.
Support the RTI-A system, ensuring effective identification, progress monitoring, and intervention for students performing below grade level.
Monitor student on-track metrics and lead planning to address gaps.
Partner with teachers to ensure consistent, meaningful use of data for planning and differentiation.
Manage academic dashboards and progress-monitoring systems to ensure accuracy and accountability.
Communicate and celebrate progress to staff, students, and families through clear, motivating messaging.
Implement academic systems that enable strong teaching and learning—gradebooks, intervention, assessment cycles, and more.
Support the Assistant Principal of Operations to ensure testing, coverage, and scheduling logistics support instruction.
Collaborate with the Assistant Principal of Culture to align academic and cultural systems that promote student ownership and success.
Collaborate with the Assistant Principal of Student Services to ensure accommodations, scaffolding, co-planning, etc. are happening with fidelity.
In collaboration with the School Leadership Team, execute all school duties and responsibilities in alignment with the Carmen vision, mission, and goals.
