About The Position

At KIPP Public Schools Northern California, we believe strong culture and academics are key to student success. Healthy and positive school cultures and climates are the foundation of effective learning environments, fostering conditions that promote successful teaching and learning. A school's culture is constantly in play, either facilitating or obstructing learning. The Content Specialist of Culture is responsible for fostering a positive school culture that supports academic achievement and personal growth for all students. This teammate will collaborate with teachers, students, families and staff to develop and implement programs and initiatives that promote the school's values of Excellence, Belonging, Determination and Integrity.

  • Instructional Leadership: Deep understanding of appropriate application and differentiation of high-leverage instructional strategies (e.g. make kids sweat, pacing, stretch it, etc.) based on comprehension of child development and pedagogy
  • Relationship Building: Expertise in cultivating relationships and managing a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Achievement Orientation: Demonstrated resilience and focus on student outcomes

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as an educator teaching students with similar demographics to our KIPP Public Schools Northern California student community
  • Previous Leadership or Teacher-Leader experience preferred (ex: Grade Level Lead, Instructional Coaching, Content Lead, etc.)
  • Hold a B.A/B.S degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Maintain a Substitute Teaching Permit through the CTC

Responsibilities

  • Model and support implementation of the school's vision and goals with a specific focus on culture
  • Engage and invest staff, students, and families in executing the cultural vision of the school by leading PD, parent meetings, and student meetings focused on building and maintaining healthy and restorative school culture
  • Facilitate and drive continuous improvement of the school's cultural enabling systems and structures including driving the execution of strong school wide routines, serving as a member of the coordination of student services team, leading and modeling restorative conferences and attendance meetings
  • Manages campus monitors and school safety structures
  • Supports teachers in student support and behavior intervention systems to ensure that limited time is spent on reactive student discipline
  • Manages and/or support parts of the daily school operations (e.g. arrival/dismissal, lunch/recess, school trips)
  • Acts as a contact for student intervention and parent engagement; determines next steps for issues that are above the teacher/grade level/department chair
  • Creates and facilitates school culture PD to teachers and leaders regarding behavioral management best practices
  • Provides real time coaching to teachers and leaders school wide on classroom cultural excellence
  • Ensures strong execution of school-wide routines
  • Collects, analyzes and disseminates data on culture systems to drive continuous academic improvement
  • Organizes (in partnership with the school leadership team) school wide academic, non-academic and identify affirming celebrations
  • Develops and is responsible for the scope and sequence for Advisory.
  • Responds to and navigates behavioral crisis-intervention and acute behavioral issues (breach of classroom and student community expectations)
  • Collaborate with teachers, students, and families to create, implement and monitor individual behavior plans
  • Leads Restorative Conferences
  • Manages lunch detention & after school detention systems
