Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences is responsible for the Division's efficient and effective use of facilities and human and fiscal resources for the development and improvement of instructional programs at College of DuPage. Through continuous improvement efforts and assessment activities, the Dean leads the strategic long-term planning for the Division. S/he manages the work of the Director of Nursing, Associate Dean, Nursing & Health Sciences, full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, classified and managerial staff. The Dean manages a Divisional budget and federal and state grants. The Dean creates opportunities for growth, innovation and collaboration by establishing internal and external partnerships. The Dean reports to the Associate Vice President, Academic Affairs.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a Health Science or related discipline required.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in higher education with at least one year leading an academic organization OR a leadership role aligned with the requirements of the position, and at least one year of teaching and/or training experience at the community college level or higher required.
  • Demonstrated success in higher education administration, professional activities in health science field, and applied experience in health field required.
  • Dynamic leadership, experience in faculty development, and excellent communication skills required.
  • Flexibility with the ability to be a collaborative team player required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success, outcomes based education and sensitivity to respond appropriately the needs of a diverse population required.
  • Experience in academic administration at the level of department chair or above required.
  • This position requires a background check and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with traditional, adult and non-traditional learners preferred.
  • Teaching experience in a community college preferred.
  • Experience in academic administration at the level of department chair or above, with previous experience as a dean preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate programs, goals and outcomes, which includes annual reports to regulatory and accrediting agencies, assistance with accreditation self-study document preparation and site visits.
  • Develop and implement long-range plans and programs for assigned division.
  • Seek opportunities for program growth and evaluates outcomes.
  • Maintain current knowledge of program rules and regulations and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local accreditation, certification and/or licensing requirements.
  • Facilitate development, delivery and assessment of curriculum to all college locations to meet current and emerging needs including coordinating teaching assignments and periodic revisions of course syllabi.
  • Is responsible for the scheduling of class sections, faculty assignments, and faculty loads.
  • Oversee maintenance of clinical affiliation agreements; assure faculty and student compliance with placement requirements.
  • Conduct regular Divisional meetings to apprise the faculty of institutional plans, activities, and expectations.
  • In collaboration with Division leaders, actively recruit and interview full-time and adjunct faculty.
  • Orient, evaluate, coordinate tenure, and encourage professional development of assigned faculty and staff.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of faculty and staff.
  • Encourage and support implementation of teaching activities that promotes learning-centered education.
  • Cooperate with area colleges and universities to promote transfer of credits through articulation agreements.
  • Serve on faculty and administrative committees and participate in appropriate speaking engagements, conferences, recruitment, student, or fund-raising activities.
  • Coordinate and manage divisional budget and capital acquisitions as well as any federal and state grants.
  • Manage divisional facilities and equipment, including maintenance and control of inventory.
  • Develop reports that summarize the progress, problems, and prospects of the division.
  • Oversee development and regular integration of program advisory committees.
  • Assume special responsibilities on assignment from the Associate Vice President, Academic Affairs or the Vice President, Academic Affairs.
  • Manage and resolve student compliant process for Division and ensures a learning environment in which all students are treated equitably and with respect.
  • Oversee maintenance of clinical affiliation agreements; assure faculty and student compliance with placement requirements; prepare annual reports to regulatory and accrediting agencies; assists with accreditation self-study document preparation and site visits.
  • Represent the college in manner, appearance, and behavior that promote a positive image of the college within the community.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required to maintain the quality of the programs offered within the division and to fulfill the goals and mission of the College.
