The Dean for Instructional Excellence serves as the College’s primary expert on Online Learning trends, best-practice pedagogy, and provides operational leadership for faculty development and quality assurance for instructional excellence across all course modalities, with special emphasis on online modalities. This role also participates as an effective member of the Academic and Student Affairs team.

Requirements

  • Masters or doctorate in an appropriate discipline a degree from an institution of higher education recognized by an institutional accreditor approved by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE)
  • Record of teaching excellence in high education
  • Proficiency in using LMS to deliver high impact teaching strategies and knowledge of instructional design principles
  • Track-record of developing and implementing professional development offerings
  • Strong commitment to quality academic experiences for students
  • Ability to assess and evaluate programs and offerings with an eye to improvement and effectiveness
  • Skill at prioritizing and managing multiple tasks and projects
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds and communities
  • Proven success managing successful teams
  • 3 years faculty experience
  • 3 years of people management experience in higher education or a related field as an administrator with a documented record of success
  • Demonstrated competence to serve in an administrative capacity

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate course quality improvement across all course modalities
  • Provide supervision and oversight to instructional designers
  • Design and implement evidence-based professional development for pedagogical excellence with focus on online modalities
  • Develop and administer course improvement priorities including quality assurance processes, Blueprint shells, Accessibility Upgrades
  • Collaborate with academic deans to develop strategies for growing and supporting online and hybrid programs of study
  • Advocate for appropriate availability and delivery of virtual student support services
  • Collaborate with academic deans and faculty to plan and offer professional development workshops and resources including annual Summer Institute event
  • Promote the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)
  • Align faculty excellence initiatives with student success goals
  • Collaborate with academic affairs leadership and faculty on AI literacy and ethical use, and OER implementation
  • Collaborate with academic affairs on new faculty induction and mentoring program
  • Collaborate with academic leadership and faculty on assessing ongoing faculty development needs and creating programming to fulfill identified needs
  • Manage part-time faculty fellows
  • Oversee adherence to compliance requirements and necessary memberships for online learning (MSCHE, NC-SARA, etc)
  • Develop and administer budgets for faculty development, payment to faculty for course improvement
  • Collaborate with Instructional Services and Technology on issues regarding LMS and other educational technologies
  • Collaborate with Learning Commons on issues related to faculty professional development
  • Serve as a member of President’s Cabinet and the Academic and Student Affairs Leadership Teams
  • Contribute to the College’s planning, assessment, and institutional effectiveness goals
  • Serve on selected College committees
  • Implement special responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
