About The Position

The Dean for Arts and Humanities at Waubonsee Community College is responsible for providing administrative leadership and supervision for various academic disciplines, including Art, Communications, English, Film Studies, History, Humanities, Languages, Mass Communications, Music, Peace Studies, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Theatre. This role involves budgeting, course scheduling, faculty selection, curriculum development, and assessment of student learning, all aimed at enhancing student success and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Master's degree required; master's degree in one of the division subject areas preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience in higher education at the administrative level required.
  • Three years of supervisory/leadership experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and assessment of student learning required.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience in higher education preferred; teaching experience at the community college preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative leadership and supervision for the academic disciplines of Arts and Humanities.
  • Develop an instructional schedule for the division for each semester and assign instructors accordingly.
  • Maintain staffing for the division, including recommending full-time faculty and hiring adjunct faculty.
  • Supervise full-time faculty and support staff, facilitating their professional development.
  • Coordinate the curriculum process for all instructional areas in the division and recommend curriculum revisions.
  • Lead the assessment of student learning and collaborate with faculty to enhance curriculum and instruction.
  • Develop and implement various division events to support student success and community engagement.
  • Prepare and monitor division budgets, including staffing needs and oversight of grants.
  • Collaborate with faculty and departments to support student recruitment and persistence.
  • Interact with students to resolve complaints and provide advisement.
  • Maintain contact with local employers and community groups to ensure program relevance.
  • Serve as a member of the administrative team and participate in college committees.
