About The Position

The Position : The Dean serves as the chief operating and academic officer of the College of Ethnic Studies and is responsible for creating and sustaining an environment where innovation and excellence is pursued by faculty, staff, and students. The Dean must demonstrate a clear and sustained commitment to student, faculty, and staff success.  The successful candidate will demonstrate an approach that promotes innovation in supporting the College’s departments and programs, creating new opportunities for teaching, learning, and research, and reaching new student audiences. In that context, the Dean will seek opportunities that forge new methods and approaches that increase new and exciting opportunities for students. In concert with the Provost and other university administrators, the Dean participates in developing policy and strategic planning that improves the College, university, and greater community. To support the growth and success of the College, the Dean builds community partnerships, seeks broad-based support from external agencies, and plays a leadership role in fundraising and development.

Requirements

An earned doctorate or terminal degree in Ethnic Studies or related academic discipline with a demonstrated record in teaching, research, and/or service in Ethnic Studies.
A record of effective teaching, scholarship, and service that warrants an appointment at the rank of tenured full professor at Cal State LA.
At least three years of experience in academic leadership and administration.
Ability to act decisively under stressful situations.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.
California State University, Los Angeles, as part of the CSU system, is a State of California Employer. As such, the University requires all employees upon date of hire to reside in the State of California.

Superior written and oral communication to advance the mission and vision of the college.
