About The Position

Position Summary Duties and Responsibilities Curriculum: The Dean provides overall leadership in planning, directing, and evaluating educational programs of the College, promotes continual innovation in teaching and learning, and fosters interprofessional education. The Dean promotes the achievement and maintenance of superior quality in all educational programs through continuing individual and collaborative program building, including ongoing review of individual program administration and activities, and support for program growth and new program development. The Dean participates in campus regional accreditation activities and oversees specialized accreditation of the programs in the College. The Dean may participate in teaching courses or advising students in research. Faculty: The Dean oversees the recruitment and development of a diverse and outstanding faculty and staff and the appointment of program directors, associate and assistant deans, and other key administrators. The Dean reviews, and approves as appropriate, recommendations for promotion and continuous appointment made by the College’s Promotion and Tenure Committee. Students: The Dean delegates to the associate and assistant deans, and the faculty, the authority to make decisions regarding admission, progression, and graduation policies. The Dean, in consultation with the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs and the Program Directors, determines the number of students to be admitted. The Dean consults with the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs regarding student issues and disciplinary actions. Resources: The Dean collaborates with the associate deans, assistant deans, department chairs and directors to prepare and administer the overall budget of the College. The Dean has the authority to approve all College expenditures. In collaboration with the Chancellor and the University of Nebraska Foundation, the Dean establishes development priorities for the College and seeks philanthropic funding in support of these priorities. The Dean effectively deploys College resources, including personnel, finances and space, to advance the strategic goals of the College and to fulfill the mission of UNMC Public and Professional/Relations: The Dean represents the College at official University functions, and to the Board of Regents and other University administration, the external community, state and national officials and organizations, alumni, and donors. The Dean is active in professional and community activities, assuming leadership as appropriate in organizations and committees. Research: The Dean collaborates with the CAHP Associate Dean for Research Development and the UNMC Vice-Chancellor for Research to promote the expansion of scholarship within the College and the development of College research programs and collaborations. Committee Responsibilities: The Dean serves as chairperson of the Executive and Leadership Councils of the College and enforces the Rules and Regulations of the College. The Dean is an ex-officio member of all committees of the College. The Dean establishes the committees needed to serve all aspects of the College’s management, and the needs of faculty and students, and facilitates the ability of the committees to carry out their stated purposes. The above and other duties and responsibilities shall be subject to the direction of the Chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree or terminal degree in an allied health profession or related field
  • Qualified to be appointed at the rank of professor
