Deaf Education Aide (2025-2026 academic year) Job Title: Deaf Education Paraprofessional Reports to: Principal and Teacher(s) Assigned/Coordinator for the RDSPD Dept./School: Special Education Wage Status: Nonexempt Pay Grade/Days: Clerical 3/183 days Date Revised: 5/16/2025 Primary Purpose: Deaf education aides are utilized to enhance the special education instructional program for hearing impaired students in the school’s mainstream working with general ed. teachers, deaf education teachers/staff, and hearing impaired students. Qualifications: Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED Valid Texas educational aide certificate Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to work with hearing impaired students Ability to communicate effectively Experience: Must have Signing experience Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Support Assist the deaf education teachers in effectively programming for deaf education students in the general ed. classroom as well as the special education classes. Act as a liaison between the general ed. teachers and deaf education teachers. Interpret (sign)/facilitate for the deaf students in a mainstream class. Prepare materials as directed by teachers. Maintain student files and records as directed by teachers. Assist in preparing classroom materials and visual aids. Student Management Review work with students as directed by deaf education teacher. Reinforce classroom rules. Assist students in application tasks. Oversee deaf education students as they work with classroom/learning technology. Accompany students around the school, as necessary. Assist deaf education students on field trips. Assist teachers with playground, lunchroom and bus duty, as necessary. Other Attend in-service meetings with special education teachers or meetings designated for aides. To perform any other duties directly related to deaf education students as assigned by the supervisor. Regular Attendance Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Equipment Used: Copier, personal computer, assistive technology and audiovisual equipment. Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Repetitive hand motion. Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting. Works outside and inside.
