About The Position

This is a recently-hired Engineer job that works under the general technical direction of more experienced engineers and supervisors. To obtain and maintain employment and unescorted access at DCPP, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check, psychological screen, computer-based training, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Requirements

• A 4-year BS Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited curriculum in the US or the equivalent as defined in the FSAR/plant procedures
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in engineering or science and/or completion of the new hire program, completion of ESP orientation (or equivalent), SAP proficiency desired

Nice To Haves

• Current and active California PE/EIT license or technical equivalents for positions for which a PE/EIT is not applicable (e.g. RP engineer, Chemistry engineer, etc.)
• 4-year BS Degree in Civil Engineering
• Experience in structure/seismic analysis and design
• Effectively communicates, both written and orally
• Experience working in commercial nuclear power plant with design and licensing basis
• Knowledgeable in nuclear processes, codes (eg. AISC, ASCE, and ACI 349), regulations, and best practices related to the discipline
• Demonstrates ability to interpret and apply applicable codes and regulations
• Ability to perform plant walkdowns, inspections, and evaluations for general condition assessment of steel and concrete components and structures, including validation of the seismic bracing of civil temporary structures, e.g. scaffolding and shoring
• Demonstrates ability to apply basic analytical principles and engineering fundamentals to technical problems
• Demonstrates behaviors that align with nuclear, industrial and radiological safety
• Approaches and plans work in an organized manner applying established policies and procedures
• Demonstrates conservative judgment when making technical decisions and recommendations
• Consistently shows initiative. Takes ownership of problems and solutions through completion
• Ability to develop plans for concrete and steel structure repairs; provide field support
• Ability to perform temporary load and rigging evaluations
• Ability to evaluate fall protection systems (e.g. permanent fall protection anchors)
• Ability to design equipment anchorage, from smaller commodities (eg. conduit, tubing) to larger equipment (eg. pumps, motors, compressors)
• Ability to prepare written technical documents such as design criteria, specifications, calculations and reports
• Ability to support cause evaluations, self-assessments, benchmarking, audits and inspections
• Demonstrates ability to review and approve vendor design document submittals
• Applies knowledge of concepts, principles and practices in engineering to resolve complex problems
• Demonstrates ability to facilitate coordination of design products with other departments: eg. Operations, Maintenance, Work Control and Senior Management
• Ability to interpret and apply aging management strategies for life extension consistent with codes, standards, and license
• Demonstrates ability to evaluate degraded conditions and recommend corrective actions
• Ability to lead limited scope or single discipline design modifications or serve a project engineer role on outsourced design modifications, including field support
• Ability for limited travel to attend industry conferences or oversight of vendors at offsite locations
• Ability to represent PG&E at industry association, trade committee, and inter-utility work groups

Responsibilities

• Applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria to routine and limited scope assignments
• Has basic knowledge of their specific job function
• Assists with or conducts walkdowns and inspections in the power plant
• Gathers technical information from field data and other sources
• Investigates and resolves quality-related and corrective action related equipment and programmatic issues
• Manages workload and schedule with input from supervisor
• Monitors, trends, reports, and resolves plant technical issues in accordance with various plant procedures and regulations
• Performs quality reviews of technical data with respect to plant procedures and regulations
• Enters information into the corrective action program and SAP
• Reviews design documents and design changes or other technical documents as required
• Participates in communication with regulatory and other outside agencies
• Obtains qualifications to perform above tasks independently
• May have a separate refueling or unplanned outage support assignment
• Reviews or develops procedures
• Evaluates Operating Experience and provides recommendations
• May participate in Benchmarking or self assessments
• May be required to respond to plant support callout
• May participate in an assigned ERO position (may be part of an on-call duty team)
• May develop design documents under supervision of more senior engineer
