The Diablo Canyon Fire Department is an all-risk full-service emergency response organization, responding to a variety of emergencies including fires, hazardous materials incidents, medical aids, and technical rescues, as well as supporting monthly surveillance/inspection procedures for all fire valves, fire hoses, hose reel stations, fire extinguishers, and fire barriers and barrier penetrations. Our area of responsibility is the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant and the wildlands immediately surrounding the power plant. This is an IBEW Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E. If you move forward in the process, you will have to come to the San Luis Obispo area up to five separate occasions at your own expenses to complete a written exam, a physical agility test, an interview, a ride-a-long, and a fitness for duty physical before you start. We do not reimburse your expenses, and we do not pay for relocation. This position responds to emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance at all hours while on site, performs maintenance on fire extinguishers and hydrostatic testing of fire hoses, and conducts monthly fire protection equipment surveillance tests.
