This is a full-time position with the Office of the Attorney General. Requirements

  • Have a completed bachelor's degree. In lieu of a completed bachelor's degree, law enforcement experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Not have a felony conviction.
  • Be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a South Dakota driver's license.
  • Be able to meet all minimum standards for law enforcement officer employment and certification at time of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Law enforcement experience is recommended but not required.
  • Military service, education, and life experience will be considered in lieu of law enforcement experience.
  • Applicants for special agent II positions must be currently certified law enforcement officers.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations independently or in conjunction with municipal, county, or other law enforcement personnel to gather all necessary evidence to ensure the apprehension and conviction of suspected felons.
  • Be willing to travel and work irregular hours.
