About The Position

Bill Wilson Center provides services to children, youth, young adults, and families in Santa Clara County. Additionally, we reach clients through our street outreach and crisis line programs. Bill Wilson Center programs focus on housing, mental health care, supportive services, and advocacy. Bill Wilson Center is committed to working with the community to ensure that every youth has access to the range of services needed to grow to be healthy and self-sufficient adults. This position is temporary and would be a 6 month time frame. The program provides intensive community-based services to young adults (ages 18-24) identified as former foster or probationary youth, and relies on a diverse staff and innovative program model to effectively meet the needs of this underserved and often marginalized population. Specific supports and services offered by this team for TAY housing include: case management/referral to mental health services, housing search, skill building (independent living, vocational, community safety, and emotional/behavioral), socialization and recreational activities, peer and family relationship building, academic support and coordination, employment exploration, and permanent housing search support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work or related field from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Housing needs and assistance experience required.
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse population.
  • Certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts as required for reporting
  • Driving is a requirement of the job. Must have possession of current driver’s license, access to a vehicle and personal automobile insurance.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification required (or complete within 30 days of hire).
  • Fingerprinting/background check as required by the Department of Justice and/or Title XXII regulations.
  • TB test required.
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts as required for reporting
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
  • Internet research skills are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Intake and assessment services.
  • Provide case management services to youth in program.
  • Utilize Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in individual and group meetings with youth
  • Meet with youth weekly or bi-weekly (depending on tenure in program) to conduct case management meetings utilizing the DBT methodologies
  • Create and host cohort based weekly skills groups with youth to educate them on behavioral skills including: Core Mindfulness Interpersonal Effectiveness Emotion Regulation Distress Tolerance
  • Provide telephone based coaching to youth in-the-moment support to cope with difficult situations
  • Utilize community resources to meet needs of youth in the program.
  • Maintain statistical data and complete reports as appropriate.
  • Attend agency and other program meetings as appropriate.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, get along with coworkers and management and deal effectively and professionally under pressure.
  • Monitor Clients housing conditions (residence) to ensure safety and/or cleanliness issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure cleanliness and tidiness at THP+ office sites.
  • Report maintenance issues to manager or Facilities Manager immediately.
  • Ensure that any BWC vehicles used are kept tidy and that any maintenance or safety issues are reported to the Facilities Manager immediately.
  • Regular attendance is a requirement of the position.
  • Work with outside agencies to ensure quality of care for youth and their children.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
