About The Position

The Lifeguard position at South YMCA in Kettering, OH is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. The role includes responding to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures and assisting with swim instruction when needed. The position requires individuals to be 18 years or older and is part-time, with working hours from Monday to Friday, 1 PM to 6 PM. Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Currently hold or possess the ability to achieve certification for Professional rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard certification from the American Red Cross or YMCA.
• Minimum of six months or more of related lifesaving experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains constant observation of the pool area.
• Ensures safety by communicating and enforcing pool rules, policies, and guidelines.
• Checks for hazardous conditions and ensures all safety equipment is properly placed and functional.
• May perform duties of Swim Instructor as needed.
• Responds to emergency situations according to YMCA policies, including first aid or CPR.
• Completes incident and accident reports as required.
• Follows all aquatics employee rules, dress code, policies, and guidelines.
• Maintains accurate records including pool chemical readings and first aid kit supplies.
• Maintains a clean environment by following proper cleaning procedures.
• Inspects pool and rescue equipment for safety hazards.
• Sets up and stores equipment and assists with event setup.
• Practices rescue and fitness drills regularly.
• Promotes aquatics and other YMCA programs.
• Communicates suggestions to improve the aquatics facility.
• Physically performs all skills required of a lifeguard.
• Hears noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment.
• Remains alert with no lapses of consciousness.
• Sees and observes all sections of an assigned zone of responsibility.
