About The Position

The Little People Playtime Day Care Lead Teacher is a non-exempt, full-time position (at minimum 40 hours per week) with duties both indoors and outdoors. The Lead Teacher must be a positive role model. The Lead Teacher is responsible for supervising a group of children that may include Infant, toddler, preschool or Kindergarten age children. The Lead Teacher must be available to attend staff meetings, trainings, evaluations, and orientations, fulfill the annual 15 to 20 clock hours of continuing education according to the DCFS Standards, and participate in Parent conferences and/or prepare written parent reports. The Lead Teacher will participate in the annual Open House or other family activities throughout the year. The Lead Teacher must have a working knowledge of the current DCFS Standards.

Requirements

  • Present documentation of current CPR/ first aid certification
  • Finger printing and background search as required by DCFS Standards
  • Must show proof of DCFS medical and immunization standards.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age according to the DCFS Standards with a high school diploma or equivalency (GED)
  • 60 semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester hours or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child-care/child development
  • One year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, Kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to childcare/child development from birth to age six.
  • Possess a current CDA Credential (Child Development Associate).

Responsibilities

  • Write weekly lesson plans (submitted to Supervisor) that must reflect age-appropriate activities for the children each day.
  • Establish and display a daily schedule following and incorporating DCFS and Little People Playtime’s time allotments.
  • Create a monthly activity calendar and newsletters throughout the month, post for parents, and electronically send to parents.
  • Share and delegate some duties to the Assistant Teacher.
  • Work as a team and independently to plan age-appropriate activities: music/movement activities; art/craft projects; language; math; and science experiences
  • Ensure that curriculum is incorporated in a variety of supervised activities for the children.
  • Provide a relaxed, but organized atmosphere when incorporating curriculum.
  • Utilize all available resources of Little People Playtime and its staff to ensure a smooth and effective delivery of services.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, addressing inquiries and concerns from participants, parents, and community members within 2 business days of receiving the communication. At minimum acknowledgement of the receipt of the communication should be noted.
  • Carry out the established policies of Little People Playtime.
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of all information received in connection with this position.
  • Participate in the annual Open House and other family activities throughout the year.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, evaluations, and orientations
  • Possess a working knowledge of the current DCFS Standards
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment for staff, participants, parents, and school staff.
  • Available to cover staffing situations when called for.
  • Directly responsible for the safety, welfare, supervision, and progress of the children in his/her care.
  • Communicate effectively, both oral and written, with children, staff, parents and school staff.
  • Provide timely communication, addressing all internal business communications within 2 business days of receiving the communication. At minimum acknowledgement of the receipt of the communication should be noted.
