About The Position

The Goddard School in Chicago (South Loop) is seeking a motivated Assistant Director to oversee preschool operations and ensure the highest standards of early childhood education. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Education and Operations Directors to manage staff, comply with licensing regulations, and engage with families and the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field
  • Management experience in a licensed childcare center or preschool
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understanding of age-appropriate activities for young children
  • 21 credits in early childhood education as required by IL

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing preschool operations including human resources, health & safety, programming, and facility operations
  • Developing strong relationships with staff and families
  • Managing a budget
  • Complying with state child care licensing regulations
  • Projecting a positive and upbeat attitude in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrating effective organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
  • Managing staff relationships, including appreciation, reviews, training, payroll, scheduling, and conflict resolution
  • Setting a positive mood in the school through celebrations and community engagement
  • Engaging staff and families through newsletters, social media, and events
  • Assisting with lesson planning and communication to families
  • Working towards achieving accreditations
  • Understanding special needs requirements
  • Acting as a liaison between the school and franchisor resources
  • Handling reporting, documentation, and follow-up
  • Managing staff professional development
  • Overseeing inventory management
