The Day Shift Production Manager is responsible for overseeing production work by craft employees, managing schedules, staffing levels, and coordinating work to meet or exceed targets for safety, quality, delivery, cost, and schedule outcomes. This role ensures a positive customer experience and collaborates with Project Managers to generate executable plans. The manager also assists in identifying mitigation strategies for schedule variances and partners with craft supervisors to assemble production teams and support process improvements across departments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate required; AA degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a production environment in heavy manufacturing or marine industry with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Familiarity with shipyard production procedures, government regulations, ship repair methods, and administrative procedures preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Craft Supervisors complete an executable daily production plan and provide necessary tools, drawings, materials, personnel, and leadership for safe execution.
  • Monitor compliance with company, governmental, and environmental regulatory policies to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Lead Craft Supervisors in resolving issues and eliminating barriers to successful work completion.
  • Identify and align external labor resources as needed for project execution.
  • Manage employee performance, recognizing exceptional performance and holding individuals accountable for unmet expectations.
  • Oversee quality metrics related to craft-specific work.
  • Conduct supervisor orientation for new hires and perform evaluations at 30 and 90 days.
  • Ensure all workers are trained for assigned tasks and maintain accurate schedules in the timekeeping system.
  • Promote and enforce PPE usage, job hazard analysis, and accident prevention measures in compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Coordinate work scopes and priorities with Craft Supervisors.
  • Implement company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Promote efficiency improvement plans in line with CPI initiatives.
  • Manage cost controls and improvements regarding tools and consumables.
