About The Position

To The Rescue’s Day Program is a habilitative day program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  We are first and foremost responsible for the consumers’ well-being and safety. Day Program is centered on both facility and community-based activities.  While at the facility our consumers experience group discussions, group games, learn simple educational lessons (i.e. reading, writing, math, money skills, etc.), do arts and crafts projects and learn living skills focused on increasing independence.  Day Program also offers excursions that are educational in nature; excursions to museums; recreational excursions; outings that encompass volunteer opportunities; outings to state parks and tours of local establishments.  In addition to performing day to day Direct Support Professional (DSP) duties, the Day Program Lead is responsible for handling issues that arise in the absence of the Day Program Manager, as well as handling issues that the Day Program Manager designates as the Lead’s responsibility.  The monthly activities calendar, assisting to monitor daily provider notes for consumers,  as well as any incident reports for incidents that occur during the day are a few such responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Possess patience, compassion and empathy
  • Teamwork orientation
  • Writing skills and computer skills, to include knowledge of email, internet and Google applications
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Have working knowledge of HIPAA laws and regulations.
  • Must possess strong leadership skills.
  • Excellence in communication
  • Ability to respond well under pressure
  • The employee must provide and maintain a valid driver's license the entire duration of their employment, and must be eligible for the agency’s vehicle insurance and provide proof of private vehicle coverage
  • Required to drive all agency vehicles which include vans and 15-passenger buses
  • QMAP and CPR certifications are required

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to and upholds To The Rescue’s values and policies
  • Must be able to drive To The Rescue vans, buses, and shuttles, including picking up AM and PM routes as needed.
  • Maintain close communication with the Day Program Manager on all matters that concern the Day Program.
  • Attend any required meetings as designated by the Day Program Manager.
  • Must be able to meet the needs of various consumers, including feeding, toileting, transferring, mentoring and teaching on a daily basis.
  • Ensure all assigned and required paperwork and tracking is completed in a timely manner.
  • Oversee Day Program operations in the absence of the Day Program Manager.  Ensure Day Program DSPs are performing essential job duties, including medication administration, interacting with consumers and maintaining the overall safety and comfort of all consumers.  Communicate urgencies to the Management when encountered.
  • Ensure that the consumer experience is of the highest quality day in and day out.  Adhere to all regulations and rules pertaining to the operation of a Day Program.
  • Must function as a role model to Day Program DSPs; provide leadership as needed, including assisting with training.
  • Communicate issues and concerns on a timely basis to the Day Program Manager, or the Senior Human Services Manager in the Day Program Manager’s absence.
  • All other duties as assigned.
