About The Position

The Arc Erie County New York has been supporting children and adults with disabilities, and their families in achieving their desired quality of life by creating opportunities through comprehensive services for over 65 years. The Day Habilitation (Day Hab) Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for ensuring safety and supervision of all individuals, focusing on fulfilling the Agency's Mission, Vision and Values and providing services which meet or exceed the goals of the individual, department and agency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid & approved NYS Driver's License.
  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Human Services experience preferred.
  • Ownership and access to an insured car in good operating condition is required for CSS positions.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance, training and supervision with various activities of daily living.
  • Accompanies individuals to off-site locations/activities, helping them to access and utilize community resources.
  • Acts as a role model for program participants by interacting with others in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Maintains necessary documentation as required and per regulations and agency policies.
  • Assures peoples overall safety through maintaining safety standards and familiarity with emergency safety procedures.
  • Intervenes with peoples inappropriate and/or potentially injurious behaviors in the least restrictive manner possible.
  • Transports people to medical appointments and other activities as scheduled.
  • Documents the provision of services, skill acquisitions and supports daily.
  • Assists people with personal monies and shopping needs.
  • Provides first aid when necessary and addresses routine health care needs.
  • Prepares or assists people with meal preparation and planning.
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment by completing housekeeping and minor maintenance tasks.
  • Provides input to the treatment team in the development of a person-centered plan.
  • Attends regular staff meetings, trainings, and supervisory conferences.
  • Checks agency email regularly and maintains communication.
  • Assures confidentiality of information about people.
  • Interacts with people's families, other stakeholders and the community-at-large.
