About The Position

The Security Officer at Chief Seattle Club plays a pivotal role in fostering a safe and supportive environment for Day Center and Sacred Medicine House members and housing residents. They are responsible for enforcing policies and procedures, monitoring behaviors, and ensuring the overall safety of the community. This includes patrolling designated areas, responding to disruptive behavior, and providing behavioral management for individuals with diverse needs, such as those with chemical dependency or mental health issues. The coordinator also builds rapport with community members, offers resources and support, and collaborates with internal and external teams to promote positive behavioral changes. Additionally, they maintain records, coordinate with law enforcement when necessary, and communicate effectively with team members to address ongoing issues. The role requires flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Proven experience in security or law enforcement is preferred, especially in environments involving vulnerable populations.
  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and handle difficult situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR (certification preferred).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Greets Day Center members, housing residents and assists as needed to build rapport with community
  • Monitors behaviors in and around Chief Seattle Club and alley assuring policies and procedures are enforced.
  • Contacts people loitering in the immediate area and explains and enforces agency policy regarding loitering.
  • Patrols 2nd Ave S., Yesler and Washington including the alley to ensure the safety of members, residents, and businesses.
  • Respond to disruptive behavior (includes fights, drug dealing, drug use etc.).
  • Provide behavioral management for a diverse population including individuals with chemical dependency and/or mental health issues. This includes setting limits, encouraging desired behaviors, assigning consequences and helping people think through their actions and decisions.
  • Write timely and behaviorally descriptive Ban Reports when guests exhibit disruptive behavior.
  • Provide services, resources, and information to members.
  • Develop supportive relationship with members by using motivational interviewing strategies, providing an informal listening ear for guests experiencing difficulties.
  • Work collaboratively with the other Chief Seattle Club staff, traditional mental health team to promote behavioral changes in guests.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary staff meetings as needed to coordinate services for members.
  • Make contact with CSC buildings in the patrol area to form and maintain positive community relations.
  • Maintain written and computerized records.
  • Coordinates with the evening residential staff for back up to deal with challenging situations.
  • Utilizes the Seattle Police Department as needed.
  • Communicate with other team members throughout the shift to make sure everyone is aware of any ongoing issues.
  • Coordinate with Residential Staff & Day Center staff to implement and uphold temporary/permanent site bans.
  • Attends and participates in CSC trainings, staff meetings, and monthly CSC partners meeting.
  • Other duties as assigned.
