About The Position

Accompanies campers with disabilities to main program areas, as well as leads small and large group activities. Provides quality experience to children and parents focused around the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous demonstrated experience working with children and diverse populations.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, camping, music, skits, sports, aquatics, and/or recreational games.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, Communicable Disease and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise campers’ participation in structured and unstructured activities; physically lead and participate in a variety of camp activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values. Activities include but are not limited to swimming, team building initiatives, and games.
  • Ensure all campers are comfortable, safe and feel included.
  • Assist with sensory, behavioral, social, communication and personal care needs.
  • Accompany campers to and from the restroom. Assist with toileting and diapering needs.
  • Adapt activities to each camper’s individualized needs. Set up and tear down equipment.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and timely program records including but not limited to Summer Food Program (SFP) documentation, attendance sheets, sign-in/sign-out records and accident/incident reports.
  • Adhere to program standards including, but not limited to safety and cleanliness.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follow all applicable policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of the campers served and utilize positive behavior management techniques.
  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Participates in required abuse risk management training.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
