About The Position

Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Unit Leader aids in supervising and effectively leading a group of campers and counselors in daily camp activities. Unit Leaders provide a safe and nurturing environment for campers and are actively involved and have a positive attitude about all camp activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Certifications: Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED, and First Aid.
  • Completion of required trainings.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and mentors staff
  • Plans and directs all unit activities.
  • Ensures camper and staff safety during summer program
  • Supervises unit activities and staff that meet State and YMCA ratios and regulations.
  • Assists Camp Director/Assistant Camp Director in the planning and implementation of full camp activities.
  • Assists Camp Director/Assistant Camp Director in the planning and implementation of Family Nights.
  • Assists in staff training
  • Works a table at check in or check out
  • Does a daily check ins with groups
  • Deals with second step of camper discipline-homesick problems
  • Writes evaluations on each unit staff member mid-summer
  • Any other duties assigned
