Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to serve a diverse community.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • 2 years’ experience working with individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing preferred.
  • Experience working with youth, camps, recreation programs, or community organizations preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (must obtain within 30 days of hire)

Nice To Haves

  • ASL Degree, ASL Certification or K-12 Teaching License with concentration in ASL

Responsibilities

  • Provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for Deaf or Hard of Hearing participants during daily activities, programs, emergency drills, and events.
  • Support effective communication between participants, staff, volunteers, and other program attendees.
  • Assist program staff in adapting activities and instructions to ensure accessibility and inclusion.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes participation and engagement for all individuals.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to address communication needs and accommodations in all aspects of the program, including policies and procedures.
  • Always maintain participant confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required training and staff meetings.
  • Assist with general program supervision to ensure participants’ safety and well-being.
  • Monitor participant engagement and communicate any concerns or needs to program leadership.
  • Follow all organizational policies, safety procedures, and emergency action plans.
